Music

Jeff Roy’s elegant and evocative music interweaves haunting strings, subdued vocals, elastic rhythms, soothing electronic and atmospheric sounds from cityscapes and natural environments that have inspired them in their travels. Roy is a trained violinist and violist in the classical musics of Western Europe, West Asia/North Africa, and South Asia, with an ear that also gravitates to the sounds of R&B, Blues, Folk, and Jazz Manouche. Their music swims in the cinematic soundscapes of classical post/minimalism, world folk, and indie pop, finding resonance with artists and composers like Agnes Obel, ANOHNI, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sudan Archives, and Max Richter.

Roy’s music compositions, films, and art extract from their lived experiences as a queer, non-binary traveler. Their artistic process draws heavily from visual documentations and written reflections, offering a range of different moods, sonic textures, and stories about the blissful challenges of love and migration.

Roy independently released their first single “dé/nouement” in May 2021 and their debut EP Arco in September 2021. Following the release of the EP, Roy signed a non-exclusive deal with the boutique label Little Symphony Records.
